Winter doesn’t wait.
It gets in through every broken window and every damaged roof, making an unimaginable reality for displaced families, that much harder.
For millions of people in Afghanistan, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Ukraine, winter comes in damaged homes, tents and makeshift shelters, exposed to the cold and rain.
Thousands had no choice but to flee for safety and now face the cold winter months unable to look after their loved ones. Others returned to their countries with homes and neighborhoods broken and damaged, and nowhere to live.
They will all struggle to make ends meet this winter and afford the most basic needs for their families – shelter, food, warmth, protection.
But your support can change everything.

Afghanistan
Experiencing one of the world’s largest return emergencies, nearly 3 million returned to struggling communities with 62% of households unable to afford basic expenses. Last winter, temperatures fell as low as –25°C in some parts.Familieslack adequate shelter or the means to pay for fuel, food, heating and rent.

Lebanon
Dealing with overlapping crises, the country hosts fewer than a million refugees and hundreds of thousands of displaced Lebanese families. Winter needs range from inadequate shelter conditions that offer limited protection from the cold and rain, to being unable to afford urgent needs like food, medicine, fuel and more.

Syria
For the 1.7 million returnees since 2024, the situation is daunting. Entire communities are damaged or destroyed, basic services are limited and livelihood opportunities are scarce. Last year, heavy rains, flooding and storms damaged homes and shelters, showing how winter conditions deepen humanitarian needs. Across Syria, more than 6 million require shelter assistance alone.

Jordan
Two out of three refugees still live below the poverty line. Economic pressure has intensified for refugees, making cash assistance a crucial safety net. Household incomes remain insufficient for essential expenses, resulting in food insecurity and families spending more than they can earn each month, relying heavily on borrowing to survive.
