Your donation provides a refugee with the opportunity to achieve higher education and build a better tomorrow.
Refugees are people like you and me, but they lost everything in a matter of seconds. Their most basic needs and chances to have a better life are now hard to get.
On World Refugee Day, UNHCR, in partnership with Instagram, is launching an initiative to support the higher education of the most prominent refugee students. Within this initiative, “Gamers for good”, gaming fans are invited to donate to this cause and compete with their favorite gamers on a live broadcast on Instagram.
“I was forced to leave my country, home, friends, and my school. I knew that to build a life, I need to study. I registered with UNHCR for their higher education scholarships, and I now study computer science. My dream is to study abroad and be able to stand someday on a large stage to share my story and challenges and to encourage everyone to continue working to achieve their dreams.” Wea’am, a refugee living in Lebanon.
Only 3% or less of the 80 million refugees have the chance for higher education. Believing that education is essential to build a better future for everyone, UNHCR launched the “Aiming Higher” initiative to support the Refugee Scholarships Programme (DAFI). This program enables gifted young refugee students to pursue a university degree or similar higher education. UNHCR aims to support 3 refugees across the globe access to reach higher education this year. We are hoping that, together, we can increase the percentage of refugee students enrolling in higher education from 3% to 15%.
Today, you can help making their dreams come true, by contributing in a scholarship for a prominent student, and the needed costs for his university education.
