When families are forced to flee their homes because of war, conflict, or climate change, they find safe refuge in emergency tents but are forced to live in darkness. The challenge of living in darkness is a daily reality.
When the sun sets in refugee camps, often located in remote areas outside national electricity grids, darkness halts everyday tasks such as homework, cooking, or even the feeling of safety.
That’s why this year, we have launched the UNHCR Diwali Campaign. Diwali is an annual religious festival celebrating the triumph of light over darkness. And together, this Diwali, we can light up the hearts and homes of refugee families.
Our goal is to share our light with 5,000 refugee families – literally. Funds raised by this campaign will help give refugee families solar lamps and other emergency relief items.
This Diwali, share your light with families forced to flee.
Together this Diwali let’s spread light to the lives of those in need.
