On January 7th, 2024, a devastating fire ravaged through a Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Though no casualties have been reported, the damage affected thousands, including 7,000 refugees who lost their homes and now need our urgent support.
The fire further destroyed nearly 800 shelters and close to 120 facilities, including learning centres, mosques, healthcare centres, latrines and water points.
Rohingya refugees have already endured more than six years of struggle and thousands continue to face hard conditions due to economic challenges and successive disasters like the disastrous fire of March 2023 and then Cyclone Mocha in May of the same year.
They are in desperate need of our help.
UNHCR is on the ground, working diligently to provide urgent relief through temporary shelters within the camp’s community centers, along with food assistance, health support and psychological first aid.
