This year more than ever, we need kindness!

November 24, 2020

On the 13th of November, we celebrated the international “World Kindness Day”. A day to promote kindness and compassion around the world. And this year more than ever, we feel that kindness is needed.

Here at UNHCR, we already know that small acts of kindness can change the world and they start with each one of us.

This is the story of Iman, her husband Hassan and their three children Bissan, Omer and Rawan. They need our help today as winter has already started in Jordan where they live.

The family lives on the first floor of an old, run-down building in one of the poorest areas of Amman, where many other refugee families live. And while facing another cold winter away from their home, keeping the apartment warm is very difficult for the young family, who already struggles to get by each month.

“I wish I could buy my children better clothes that would keep their bodies warm in winter”, Iman told us.

Back in Syria, Hassan was an assistant engineer and Iman was studying at the university. But their life has drastically changed since they ran away from their hometown of Aleppo in 2014. Though he struggles with an eye injury, Hassan was getting by through some informal work until the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

In preparation for winter, UNHCR has started since September to offer assistance to thousands of vulnerable refugee families by providing them with shelter repair materials, weather-proofing kits and blankets, as well as winter survival funds.

Your donation today is essential to help us reach more and more of those families so that they can afford heating, warm food, winter clothes and medicine for their children all winter long.
