Yemen is gripped by one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises — and recent escalations have forced thousands to flee their homes.
Families are fleeing with little more than they can carry. Tens of thousands have been newly displaced across the south and west in recent days — some are now risking dangerous boat crossings to reach Djibouti. Approximately 60 per cent are women, children and the elderly, arriving in desperate need of shelter, food and protection.
For many, this is not the first time. Years of conflict, economic collapse and environmental disaster have already displaced nearly 4.8 million Yemenis. More than 2 million children are out of school, further pushing a generation into uncertainty.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency’s emergency response teams are on the ground in Yemen and Djibouti, addressing the needs and are ready to provide urgent assistance including shelter, cash assistance and critical protection to families on both sides of the sea.
Yemeni families cannot wait another day.
